The Aztec Chief title screen. It portrays an Aztec Chief standing in front of an Aztec temple. The horizon glows a strange purple, pink, and orange hue, while the skies are filled with darkness. The game title is positioned in front of the temple next to the chief.

Deep in the jungles of Central America, the Aztec Chief waits for the player to test their luck at slots. Many online slot games play it safe and stick to the formula, but this Meso-American-themed slot shakes things up with unique game mechanics. Also, Aztec Chief has an average RTP and volatility compared to most slot machines, making this title perfect for newer and casual players who play slots online.

Aztec Chief is a traditional 5×3 reel slot machine, though it has an above-average number of paylines available. New twists include random jackpot and credit prizes, plus a bonus round brimming with wild symbols.

When choosing an online slot theme, numerous online slots in Canada use Meso-American aesthetics. The symbols in Aztec Chief feature jaguars, eagles, and obsidian daggers, alongside classic card ranks. In the background stands an ominous temple in a jungle, with the sun fading behind it. The aesthetics are certainly atmospheric, not to mention stylish.

Aztec Chief Bets and Jackpots

Only particular wagering sizes are available to choose from. Bets start as low as 75 credits with a 0.01x multiplier, or $0.75. The maximum bet is 750 credits, equivalent to $7.50.

At any time, on any spin where a gold coin appears, a jackpot prize can be triggered. The player will be prompted to choose an Aztec mask from the pyramid to the left of the reels.

Choosing a statue can award one of three jackpots: Minor, Major, or Grand. Statues can also award credit prizes ranging from 1,000 to 2,750 credits.

Aztec Chief Special Features

Aside from the jackpot pyramid, a few other features can occur while spinning the reels. Learn more about what the different symbols mean and understand how to trigger the bonus round.

Special Symbols

Scatter symbols are represented by a golden Aztec pyramid and can appear at any time. They are mainly used to trigger the bonus round, but can also transform into wilds.

Wild symbols can substitute for any other symbols. The golden coin symbol is the ticket to making wilds appear. Each reel has two empty meters at the top. Whenever a coin appears on that reel, the meter turns gold. Once both meters are gold, the entire reel fills with wild symbols for the next two spins. Then the meters are emptied out again.

Players will also find the titular Aztec chief is the highest-value symbol after wilds. Only two Aztec chief symbols need to be lined up to trigger a win — all other symbols require a minimum of three.

Bonus Rounds

When three or more scatter symbols (or their wild versions) appear across the reels, a bonus round launches with 7 extra spins. During the bonus, whenever a gold coin appears, it immediately turns its reel into all wilds until the end of the bonus round. More scatters can also be collected to extend the bonus round by up to 10 extra spins with a set of 5 scatters.

The bonus round is a great opportunity to rack up some wins, especially with wild symbols, but it’s entirely luck-based. There’s nothing to do other than watch the reels turn and hope for the best.
